Ward Two - Vice Mayor Marianne Barnebey

Marianne Barnebey first served the citizens of Bradenton as Ward Two Councilwoman in January 1998. She was elected to the seat for four terms before she resigned to run for another office in 2012. When the Ward Two seat was vacated in June 2020, she jumped at the chance to come back and was appointed on June 24.

During her time away from the Council, Mrs. Barnebey found other ways to serve the community. She served as a Board Member and Chair of ArtCenter Manatee and was on the selection committee for architectural and construction services there. She also was a Board Member of the Service Club of Manatee County and as the grants Co-Chair and Chair, oversaw the distribution of more than $235,000 to selected charities that served children in Manatee County.

In her previous service on the City Council, Mrs. Barnebey served as Bradenton’s representative on the Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization for eight years, serving as Vice-Chair in 2009 and Chair in 2010. During her time on the City Council, Mrs. Barnebey was recognized by SRQ Magazine as one of Bradenton’s Outstanding Elected Officials.

She has also served on the Manatee County Library Board of Trustees from 2000-2016, serving as Chair for eight of those years; she was a certified Childbirth Educator at Blake Hospital; and she was a Field Executive with the Gulf Coast Girl Scout Council.

She was the founder of Bradenton’s Winter Wonderland, was instrumental in the Jingle Bell Run and the Holiday Boat Parade.
