Boards, Committees, and Commissions
Development Review Committee (DRC)
- The Development Review Committee (DRC) is a staff committee consisting of representatives from Planning and Community Development (Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement), Public Works (Engineering and Surveying), Fire, Police, the Community Redevelopment Agency, and other local entities as needed.
- The DRC reviews pre-application proposals, which may include petitions for changes in use, special use permits, and other development proposals. The purpose of the meeting is to provide a preliminary review of the proposal and to offer information on the development review process and subsequent hearings.
- The DRC meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month in the afternoon.
- The pre-application process starts by completing the necessary forms and information on Accela. Petitions are typically scheduled for the next available meeting, usually at least ten days following submission.
Planning Commission
- The Planning Commission is a seven-member board that reviews planning petitions and makes recommendations to the City Council. For variances, the Planning Commission's decision is final unless appealed.
- The Planning Commission meets once a month on the third Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Meeting dates are subject to change and are dependent on a quorum.
- Due to advertising and noticing requirements, complete applications must be received at least 45 days prior to the Planning Commission meeting. If the petition has not been received by the DRC, a presentation at the DRC may be required before proceeding to the Planning Commission.
Architectural Review Board
- The Architectural Review Board (ARB) is a six-member board that reviews certificates of appropriateness for historic properties, murals, and other petitions as specified in the City's Form-Based Code and Land Use Regulations.
- The ARB meets as needed, typically on a Monday at 10:00 a.m.
Tree and Land Preservation Board
- The Tree and Land Preservation Board (TLPB) is an eleven-member board that promotes awareness of the citywide tree canopy, tree education programs, and open space and parkland preservation initiatives The TLPB oversees the tree program for Arbor Day and helps maintain Bradenton's designation as a Tree City.
- The TLPB meets on the third Friday of every month.
