Supervision Received: Reports to the Director, Building Official and Senior Permit Specialist. May report to Plans Examiner(s) or other Division Managers as directed.
General Purpose of the Position: The purpose of this position is the direct customer service processing of a variety of Development and Building applications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process building and development permit applications.
- Deal directly with the general public including general contractors, builders, realtors, and homeowners.
- Process the registration, billing and licensing of contractors.
- Direct individuals to various departments and divisions of the City for appropriate assistance.
- Responsible for departmental typing, filing and ongoing permitting/inspections.
- Perform cashiering services for Department and Division.
- Records Keeping.
Skills and Physical Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of the organization, operation and governing laws of the Planning, Zoning, and Building Divisions.
- Knowledge of the Florida Building Code and local land use regulations.
- Ability to work under extreme pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to assist customers with property development issues and problems.
- Must be able to learn the EDEN and Munis Permit Tracking System.
- Must be team-oriented.
- Light to medium lifting required.
- May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Works indoors mostly in an office environment.
- May be required to drive a City vehicle.
Computer Equipment and Software Requirements: Computer hardware and software programs, telephone, copy machine, printers, fax machine, calculator, scales, maps, and other office equipment.
Education and Experience Required: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Three (3) years of experience in a similar position. Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Florida driver’s license. ICC certification as a Permit Technician, Construction Licensing Officials Association of Florida and bilingual ability is highly desired.
Preferred: Experience with building plans, blueprints, and computer software.
Pay Grade: 109
