General Purpose of the Position:        The purpose of this position is to respond to emergency calls for fire suppression, rescue, medical, hazardous materials, and other related service.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Resource Management
    • Apparatus/Equipment/Building Maintenance

o   Special Operations Assignments

  • Pre-Fire Planning
  • Hydrant Maintenance

o   Emergency Services Operations

  • Fire Suppression
  • Medical and Rescue Responses
  • Hazardous Materials Response
  • Other Necessary Related Responses

o   Training Division

  • Daily Training, both practical and classroom
  • Physical Conditioning
  • Is encouraged to make recommendations that would improve safety and efficiency of the department.
  • Shall be a Florida certified firefighter and be able to perform the duties and responsibilities of a suppression firefighter.
  • May advance to fourth class firefighter pursuant to the promotional policy.
  • Shall perform such duties as superior officers may prescribe and as requested by a fire department order, memo, bulletin, or direction.
  • Shall report any unsafe condition to a superior officer immediately.
  • Shall be able to work as a team member.
  • Shall be required to maintain a monthly average of 70% or higher on all examinations taken, whether practical or written.
  • Shall be responsible for taking notes in classroom drills, taking an active part in practical drills, and turning in any assignments on time.
  • Shall be able to take orders and perform tasks correctly and in an efficient manner.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Perform any such duties as his/her superior officers may prescribe and as requested by a Fire Department order, memo, bulletin, or directive.
  • Be familiar with the information contained in the Organizational Guide; complying with same and shall be guided by the Rules & Regulations and any subsequent changes, additions, and deletions that may arise.
  • At all times conduct themselves in a proper manner and shall not bring embarrassment upon the Fire Department or any member.
  • Strive to improve their efficiency as well as the image of the department.
  • Report any unsafe condition to a superior officer immediately and be responsible for the compliance with, and adherence to safety rules at all times.
  • Be able to work as a team member.
  • Be responsible for compliance with all State and Federal regulations and laws.
  • Stand, walk, sit, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, hand, speak, hear, see, depth perception, and color vision.
  • This position shall also comply with department specific essential functions, consistent with NFPA 5.1.1. 

 

Education and Experience Required:  High school diploma or GED equivalent. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Firefighter-II Certification. Must meet minimum requirements set by the City of Bradenton hiring guidelines. Must have completed the Bradenton Fire Department 40-hour Initial Orientation Program. Must possess the following FEMA NIMS certifications: I-100 and IS-700.  Firefighters hired without these certifications shall successfully complete the course(s) during the Initial Orientation Program.
