Schedule: This position may work irregular shifts, day or night, weekday or weekend and requires scheduled/unscheduled overtime, including evenings, weekends and holidays and/or immediate response to emergency conditions.

General Purpose of the Position: The purpose of this position is to provide impartial scientific evidence for
use in courts of law to support the prosecution or defense in criminal and civil investigations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Receive property coming into care and see that it is properly labeled and submitted to the Property Officer.
• Process, lift, and photograph fingerprints.
• Responsible for fingerprinting and photographing City license applicants and any other applicants, as required by ordinance or Department policy.
• Perform all necessary photographic work for the Police Department.
• Keep records and prepare reports detailing findings, investigative methods and laboratory techniques.
• Maintain hours of duty as established by the Division Commander of the Detective Division, but shall be available for duty at all times in case of a major crime or traffic occurrence which needs processing.
• Properly operate and maintain all equipment and vehicles assigned to this Section.
• Responsible for the identification of persons through technical processes.
• Responsible for day/night hours for active and post crime scenes for the purposes of collecting, developing and preserving forensic evidence
• Responsible for all laboratory services, including the packaging of evidence to be transported to local, State, and FBI Laboratories, etc.
• This position spends at least 65% of the time performing duties involving collection, examination, preservation, documentation, preparation, or analysis of human tissues or human fluids or physical evidence having potential biological, chemical, or radiological hazard or contamination, or use chemicals, processes, or materials that may have carcinogenic or health-damaging properties in the analysis of such evidence.
Skills and Physical Abilities Required:
• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
• Ability to communicate information and ideas, both verbally and in writing.
• Frequent bending, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking.
• Occasional squatting, bending, standing, walking, kneeling and climbing.
• Heavy physical exertion on demand during physical lifting and storing of evidence.
• Maximum lifting fifty (50) plus pounds occasionally, one (1) to five (5) pounds frequently.
Equipment Used: Computer, camera, alternative light source, video knowledge, super glue fuming.
Education and Experience Required: Associate's Degree in Crime Scene Technology required. Experience preferred in the Law Enforcement field. Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
Environmental Conditions: Inside and outside work as directed by the crime scene (weather variables); protective clothing may be worn when necessary.
