Classification:                                    Essential:  This position is an Essential Classification and will require employee to report to duty as needed for an emergency or a hurricane.

 

Schedule:                                            This position generally works a regular weekday daytime shift and may require scheduled and non-scheduled work outside of normal working hours.  This may include evenings, weekends, holidays, or other critical times in response to emergencies or at supervisor’s discretion. 

 

Supervision Exercised:                     No supervision of staff.  Ability to lead and manage projects and resources where and when required.

 

Supervision Received:                      Works under the direct supervision from the Information Technology (IT) Director or designee.  Considerable independent judgment and initiative is required.  Must be able to set schedules and complete work within approved timeframes.

 

General Purpose of the Position:      The purpose of this position is to maintain and secure the City’s infrastructure.  This position also helps the City of Bradenton maximize its investment in technology by implementing solutions to the furthest extent. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform installation and configuration of network servers, routers, switches, phone systems, CCTV systems and equipment, etc., including the repair and replacement of all hardware components.
  • Monitor release levels, review release documentation, install system and application updates for all systems and networking equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues.
  • Work with Networking team to provide recommendations for the design and implementation of local and wide area networks.
  • Monitor and maintain backup systems.
  • Analyze user needs and implement solutions that fulfill their needs in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Create and maintain system documentation and logs.
  • Establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with team members, management, customers, and vendors.
  • Promote courtesy and professionalism throughout the City of Bradenton.

 

 


 

Skills and Physical Abilities Required:

  • Thorough knowledge of all network components and protocols including servers, virtualization, switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless as they apply to the City’s network.
  • Thorough knowledge of backup and recovery best practices
  • Knowledge of security best practices and frameworks.
  • Experience with fiber optic networks.
  • Experience with IP phone systems.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrate sound verbal and written communication skills, good troubleshooting and analytic skills.
  • Make sound decisions, demonstrate flexibility, and work with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Present technical information in a non-technical manner.
  • Physically move computer and related equipment.

     

Computer Equipment and Software Requirements:  Server Virtualization, Storage Area Networks (SAN), VLANs, firewalls, among other networking protocols.  Experience with troubleshooting complex network issues, VOIP telephony issues, and high-level networking tasks.   

 

Education and Experience Required:  Bachelor’s Degree in Technology or a related field with three (3) or more years of experience working with enterprise level networks.  At the discretion of the Hiring Manager, a comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for these qualifications

Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Florida driver’s license. 

              

Preferred:  Bachelor’s Degree in Technology. Certifications including but not limited to CCNA, CCNP, or MCSE. Advanced knowledge set in networking, systems security methodology and protocols.

 

FDLE/CJIS Requirement:  Previous FDLE or other security clearances are preferred.  This position requires the candidate be certified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for work using systems that contain offender and criminal data.  A thorough background check will be conducted to include a polygraph.

 

 

Environmental Conditions:  Indoor.  Must be able to work closely with others and under possible stressful conditions.
