City of Bradenton Continues Helene Recovery Efforts
BRADENTON, FL – The City of Bradenton is actively working to support residents and businesses as recovery efforts continue following the impact of Hurricane Helene. Our City leaders, including Mayor Gene Brown, have been hands-on, assisting in debris cleanup and water distribution immediately following the storm.
City staff have completed initial damage assessments using Crisis Track software, revealing the following preliminary estimates for Bradenton as of October 1, 2024:
Residential Damage:
- Major: 294, Minor: 194, Affected: 103
- Total Estimate of Damages: $39,357,236
Commercial Damage:
- Major: 6, Minor: 24, Affected: 7
- Total Estimate of Damages: $1,728,604
This morning, Disaster Recovery Teams, alongside volunteers from Manatee County Government, deployed to the hardest-hit areas in the city, primarily east of Manatee Memorial Hospital along Riverside Dr. E., including trailer parks, and to the west along Riverview Blvd. These teams will provide residents with vital information to address immediate human needs and assistance with recovery efforts.
Storm-related debris removal began immediately following the storm and is ongoing. Residents are requested to place debris curbside as soon as possible, sorting it into categories for proper disposal. Priority will be given to areas with the most concentrated and unsafe debris.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Manatee County for their vital role in maintaining our water supply after Hurricane Helene’s storm surge breached the impoundment dam of the Braden River. While our drinking water remains safe, some residents may experience a slightly saltier taste as our Public Works teams work to restore water quality to pre-hurricane levels.
A Point of Distribution for bottled drinking water is open today at Bradenton Auditorium (100 10th St. W.) until 7:00 p.m.
