Merit Personnel Board

Description: The Merit Board shall hear review requests from general employees of the City with respect to any dismissal, demotion or suspension. The board shall have the power to examine witnesses under oath and to compel their attendance for the production of evidence before it by subpoena issued in the name of the City and attested by the City Clerk and Treasurer. The board shall make a written statement of the facts of each appeal and its findings and recommendation, all of which shall be submitted to the City Council for such action as the Council, in its judgment, determine to be proper.

Meetings: As needed

Members: 5, with one alternate. Each shall be a person of a different vocation from the others and not employed by the City in any capacity, official or otherwise.

Terms: Three years
